Cambiaso: ‘To be a professional at Juventus takes a lot of training’

Start

Juventus youngster Andrea Cambiaso spoke at length with the clubs official Twitch channel, explaining what it takes to play for the Bianconeri. The 23-year-old has made the step up to the Bianconeri’s first team this season and speaking on Twitch, he revealed his feelings about the move, as well as scoring his first goal late on in the match against Verona and the late winner against Monza:

“Incredible stuff, winning like that is even more beautiful. It had already happened with Verona and it was beautiful. Incredible. Everything seemed calm, then everything happens. It was incredible, from the bench it was… too bad about that goal, the action didn’t seem so decisive. Soon the goal, then Gattone was incredible. From the pitch really, it looked like it went in. On Gatti’s cross I wanted to close in at the far post, I saw the ball go in on Milik. I cheered, then the ball stayed in and in doubt I put it in. Winning games like that is priceless”.

“Different awareness? These are important victories, you also need luck. But you have to look for luck. Those two games are six points that weigh heavily, in my opinion they will be seen later. Victories that we went looking for. In the analysis they are two different games, with Verona we had twice as many chances as Monza. We had an excellent first half, then we went down too much. Scoring was not a trivial thing…’.

“I had never come to Juve, I arrived and went on loan. These messages here: fino alla fine, Juve is like a family…. They sound more like catchphrases, but in reality when you live them and come here to Continassa you hear these things every day.”

“They are nice phrases to say, but we are still on the fourteenth match day. There is still much, much to do. I’ve played 13, half of them as a starter: 7. Goals and assists: 1 and 1. Goal? It’s difficult to set. I didn’t think I’d be playing with such regularity and minutes, I’m doing well and I can still do very well. The important thing is to play and help the team. I’ve always had that, I can play many roles.

“How many balls did I recover? Seven balls recovered. Am I evolving? As a child I was born as a centre forward, until the Under-17s that’s how it is. Then my physical constitution changed, I got running and legs and moved to the outside. A role in which I find myself best? Difficult to answer. Wing-back on the left, maybe, but also on the right. I don’t know if that’s good or bad. I like to make myself available, that’s what I like best”.

“The shirt? I’ve also been a fan, haven’t I? I used to go to the stadium as a kid and I understand when they give me jerseys, I don’t have the availability to give it to everyone, you will do what you can”.

“My NBA team? The Lakers. How come? Dad passed the passion on to me, he followed Magic. I started following the Lakers. I see the highlights, but the evening ones, sometimes at 9.30 and 11, I try to follow them. LeBron is the absolute goat’.

“My season? Good, it’s going well. Both personally and as a team, we’re there fighting and that’s what we wanted to do at the beginning of the season. Fight for the first few seasons. Let’s see how it goes. What is still missing? A little coldness, lucidity, experience. You only acquire that by playing and watching your more experienced teammates.

“Beating Napoli? We hope to repeat that, two years ago it was a good thing. It will be a match with two strong teams, Napoli will be tough, they come from two defeats. We are hungry. This year, since I’ve been here, the Stadium is always nice to play in. I’ve felt the affection, yes. I’m clearly pleased but from the pitch, personally at least, I perceive a lot’.

“Allegri? I think he’s taken to me well, he has incredible experience. He has coached great champions and I can learn. I’m doing it, I think I’ve grown. I can only keep doing it. The first time i met him? In the league, but last year, when I came to sign from Genoa. I had caught him in the corridors, with Cherubini and Manna. We had all made the decision to go on loan and he told me: ‘We’ll wait for you!’ All my agents were there, they are an integral part of me, I am lucky’.

“Every year I have climbed a category, except Serie B and Serie D. I climbed all the categories, it was a beautiful path that I recommend to the boys. I needed that path, I am proud and I was also lucky. It takes luck to climb through the leagues. A long and beautiful route. What would I recommend? I always repeat: luck, but a lot of training. And for this I thank my father who taught me: you need to train more than others, I was happy when I knew I had worked harder than others.

“How important is that relationship with my dad? Inexplicable, the contribution my family has given me. My mother was more outspoken in football, dad gave me this mentality, humility and work. I repeat: the contribution they have given me is inexplicable. It is fundamental to have a healthy family for these levels. Behaviour and actions are influenced by the people around you. Those who teach you the true principles of life are fundamental’.

“Getting he Juve call? I remember that day well. I had gone to my agents in Carrara. There had been various movements, then I remember that day when they told me: don’t worry, it’s all done. Juve has arrived. All right, that’s enough. That’s enough. When Juve arrived I had no doubts: it’s the most successful club in Italy, it’s incredible, and in these three months it’s confirmed everything I thought”.

“The weight of the shirt? It’s a question of responsibility towards my teammates and the fans. This is a historic jersey, worn by seven Ballon d’Or winners. It amply explains what it means to wear this shirt. And the expectations people have of you. As a result, people expect the strongest to play in it. It creates expectations, but that’s only good. Next Ballon d’Or? We’re a long way off yet… Mbappé I think is the most decisive. Lucas Vazquez was great: in America he played an incredible game, I went close to him because players like that… I mean there were players of a different level. He has been playing for a long time at Real and has always performed. He was always there, he trained. He was great, exchanging the jersey with me when he didn’t even know who I was, he was great’.

“Idols? I grew up with Messi. Then Dybala, I saw him in Genoa. He scored an unbelievable goal, from the right and it was a left-footed strike. Great goal. I used to play as a midfielder and trequartista, those players there I idolised. Then today Cancelo, we know that very well. The jersey? Incredible, that incredible day. There was Fabris who said to me: come here a moment. There were 2-3 people with cameras. What’s going on? I opened the drawer and saw the shirt, I didn’t expect it. It was amazing stuff, I framed it.”

“Who have I bonded with the most? Miretti and Fagioli I knew from the Under-21s. Hans Nicolussi was a surprise, we had seen each other many times. He was born in 2000, we played against each other many times and it was nice to meet him there again. I have a very good relationship with him. The nicest? We’re a nice bunch of fools. The nicest one is Manuel Locatelli, always ready with a joke. He’s very gentlemanly. He always has a ready joke. That kind of comedy I like.
