Monza midfielder Andrea Colpani couldn’t contain his excitement at being called up to the Azzurri: ‘Being here is extraordinary, I already have goose bumps’. The 24-year-old is enjoying another strong season for the Biancorossi, leading to inevitable links with the likes of Inter and Napoli this winter. Speaking about his call up to the national team, Colpani revealed that he only found out about the decision from social media:
‘To experience this place and this air is crazy, it’s an incredible feeling to be here, to play with the major national team together with the champions who are part of it: truly extraordinary’.
“The call-up? Monza didn’t tell me anything, I was training and then I saw the Azzurri’s post, but I only realised after the match against Torino. In a roundabout way I knew I was pre-called, but I didn’t know for sure. Was I hoping for it? Of course, because I’m giving my all and so I hoped Spalletti would keep an eye on me.”
“My confidant here was Bastoni, we’ve known each other all our lives and he made me fit into the rest of the group.
“My career in the youth team was fundamental, I started at Atalanta at eight years old and they gave me a lot, they taught me to play football by giving me foundations, I will thank them for life.
“Idols? Francesco Totti, for the penalty against Australia. He was important. His imagination, his plays that only he could see, an infinite quality.”
