Max Allegri was impressed with Juve’s win over Cagliari but once again suggested that Inter are the favourites for the title this season. The Bianconeri have won their last five matches in a row, overtaking Inter to sit in first place for the time being. Juve will face the Nerazzurri after the international break, and speaking about the Derby D’Italia, Allegri explained that ‘anything can happen’ in a one-off match against their long-standing rivals:
“It was important to win (against Cagliari) because it put us in a good position, maintaining our position, stretching the distance from the pursuers. Cagliari came from a very good run of form. We stopped playing a bit after the 2-0, then conceding goals on our corner kick. Fortunately, it was irrelevant.”
“We must be more effective, have more serenity in the last step. The team has an extraordinary spirit. If at the beginning of the championship we were breaking down after suffering, now we remain compact.”
“In the last quarter of the first half we raised the pace of the match and managing it, then we suffered a drop, but the team remained compact. It’s good to take advantage of the inactive balls in our favour.”
“Lack of goals from the strikers? I’m not worried at all. The goals will come to them: they have had chances, they must remain serene. McKennie? He is playing an important season, his is a growth of maturity. He has to go on: we are only on the twelfth week. When the spaces widen, he becomes devastating.”
“Inter? In a one-off game anything can happen. They are the favorites for the championship, like Milan and Napoli. We have to stay there to keep the distance. I think Inter have a great chance of winning the Scudetto.”
“The ‘new’ Juve? You have to have the low profile at Juventus and make it normal to win games. The boys are succeeding. We had 12 good games.”
