Rudi Garcia: ‘We deserved to win. We only did one thing wrong’

Start

Rudi Garcia believes Napoli deserved to beat Union Berlin, despite the match ending 1-1: ‘We only did one thing wrong’. The Partenopei took the lead through Matteo Politano and looked to be cruising to victory, only to be hit on the counter by a David Datro Fofana goal. Garcia couldn’t hide his frustration when speaking after the game, pointing to a single mistake that undid all of Napoli’s good work:

“This goal that we conceded ruined everything, Tonight we deserved to win, we played the game almost right, but in front we could attack better and then you can not concede a goal like this on a corner kick of ours. That was the only bad thing. Maybe they kicked the corner quickly and we didn’t have time to resume positions. This must serve as a lesson for the next games.”

“Now we have to recover because the Champions League takes a lot of energy. We have to win again in the league to look up. We tried in every way to score the second goal, but I have nothing to reproach the guys for, apart from the goal conceded. When doubling up it becomes easier, we have to be good at not conceding goals, especially at the Maradona. We are working on it, it is a matter of balance and reasoning on the ground. We’ll find some solutions, this distraction cost us so much.”

“Osimhen? Yes he is back, but nothing changes for Sunday, we will have Victor work to have him available against Atalanta”.
