Mourinho on suspension conspiracy: ‘Many idiots have said things’

Start

Roma coach Jose Mourinho dismissed the ‘idiotic’ conspiracy theory that he deliberately got a touchline ban for Sunday’s Serie A match with Inter Milan. The Giallorossi boss was sent off last weekend for sarcastically taunting coach Raffaele Palladino following Roma’s  late win over Monza.

Some reports in Italy suggested that he deliberately picked up the booking to avoid being on the touchline against his former side. Speaking with Sky Sport, the Special One dismissed the notion out of hand:

“I’m sorry for talking negatively. But there are idiots saying the kinds of things that only an idiot could say. And then it’s even more idiotic when someone from the world of football says it.

“I’m the coach of Roma, I want to be there with my team when we play. Unfortunately, what happened in the last minute against Monza happened.

“The thing that I regret is that I won’t be able to be with my player. We’re playing against a team who should, in my view, win the title with a twenty-point advantage.

“So of course, to play against them we’ll have to be at our best.”
