Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku say people would be ‘shocked’ if they knew what really happened during the summer transfer window. The 30-year-old spent last season on loan with Inter from Chelsea and looked set to make the move permanent in the summer. Reports then emerged that he had been negotiating with Juventus, prompting the Nerazzurri management to withdraw from all talks for Lukaku, while Juve opted not to pursue their interest in him. A loan move to Roma was agreed before the transfer window closed, with Lukaku going on to score 7 goals in 8 games across all competitions.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Belgium’s EURO 2024 qualifiers, Lukaku addressed the controversial summer, promising to one day explain the saga in full:
“Most of the people here in the room know me. I don’t like beating around the bush.
“I’ll speak in time, but if I actually said how last summer went, everyone would be shocked.
“There were times when I really thought I might explode, five years ago I probably wouldn’t have stood back and done it.
“Now I am focused on what I do best, I know how to play football. I worked hard all summer. I also have to thank Radja Nainggolan for giving me the contact with Roma.”
