An injury-time goal from Pedro secured all three points for Lazio on Wednesday evening as they defeated Celtic 2-1 at Parkhead in the Champions League. Maurizio Sarri hopes that ‘tonight’s victory can give them (the team) the push to get out of the negative period’. It was the Biancocelsti’s first victory away from home in Europe since 2003.

Lazio have not had a good season thus far and currently sit in the bottom half of Serie A. However, the win on Wednesday should help lift spirits in the camp. Sarri talked to Sky Sport after the match as he discussed the importance of the win, the team’s display and his midfield of Daichi Kamada and Luis Alberto:

“The match went as we had expected, with high intensity. We had a great first half and we also had a period of suffering, but we had more character to stay inside. Even before the match I told the boys not to listen to anyone because we are very close to being competitive. But that little is what differentiates between winning and losing.”

“I hope that tonight’s victory can give them (the team) the push to get out of the negative period . Among last year’s players there are some who are performing less, it can be a sort of satisfaction.”

On the midfield selection: “Always Luis Alberto and Kamada in midfield? We need to understand that playing every 3 days we have different solutions. Many players arrive at the 66th (minute) in difficulty with so many matches.”
