Italiano: ‘These are three important points and we must try to obtain them’

Vincenzo Italiano spoke to the Viola Park press room ahead of Fiorentina’s clash with Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros on Thursday in the Europa Conference League. Fiorentina are searching for their first European victory of the season after drawing 2-2 away to Genk in their Group F opener.

Italiano addressed the media in his pre-match press conference and spoke about team selection, Ferencvaros coach Dejan Stankovic and the impact of an extra day’s rest for the opponents:

“Tomorrow’s match will be an important match because it will be the first at home in the group and we must get the most out of it by trying to replicate recent performances and perhaps be more consistent within the match. We must accelerate in the standings, taking advantage of the home field factor and the enthusiasm that was created, while still respecting the opponent and an important coach like Stankovic. These are three important points and we must try to obtain them.”

On team selection: “Let’s continue like this. Tomorrow Christensen will play and he is growing and settling in. Biraghi has a bad ankle, it has improved a lot. Today he trained with the group and let’s see how he will be tomorrow. I hope he is ready for tomorrow because we need to catch our breath.”

On the impact of an extra day’s rest: “I don’t think it can have an impact. Nowadays, those involved in these competitions can also find a way to try to put the right players on the field. There’s no need for alibis or excuses, you can try to be up to par even with one day less preparation.”
