Pressure is on for Simone Inzaghi to deliver a result for Inter on Tuesday as they bid for their first Champions League win of the season when they host Benfica at San Siro. The Nerazzurri drew 1-1 away to Real Sociedad in their opening European game of the season and so the expectation is for them to get the three points here.
Inzaghi talked to the media pre-match in his press conference as he discussed the importance of the game after failing to beat Sociedad and Sassuolo, the fitness of Juan Cuadrado and the growth of Lautaro Martinez:
On the Benfica match: “It will certainly be a demanding match, with high intensity. They have won all the matches except one, like us. The principles are the same as last year. They lost their first match in the Champions League playing with ten men and despite this they had many opportunities and they deserved another result.”
On Cuadrado: “He trained today, he’s the first in the group after having been training separately. He’s called up. Then I still have to make some assessments for whoever will play from the start. We missed him after the first games and I’m counting on him for the next matches.”
On the growth of Martinez: “As a footballer he was fantastic in the first two years with me and he started even better. In addition to the footballer, the man has maximum commitment every day and a great sense of belonging which makes the difference.”
