Fiorentina head coach Vincenzo Italiano has provided an update on the health of Nicolas Gonzalez after he was forced off at half-time due to injury: “He felt a terrible pain and asked for a change. Let’s hope it’s nothing serious”.

La Viola shared the points in a 2-2 draw away to Genk in their Europa Conference League match on Thursday. Fiorentina were leading for the majority of the game until Mark McKenzie equalized late on. Italiano spoke to Sky Sport after the match and discussed his team’s performance, the health of Gonzalez and the loss of Giacomo Bonaventura:

“Before the 2-2 goal we had two important opportunities to close it out, we could have done better. Playing here is not easy, Genk is a team that has pace and doesn’t make you play well. We could have closed it out, but we almost lost it. The performance was there, we even saved someone who wasn’t doing very well. We take a point, we’re happy.”

On Gonzalez: “He felt pain in his abdomen, he felt terrible pain and asked for a change. Let’s hope it’s nothing serious, you know how important Nico is to us.”

On Bonaventura: “Giacomo has the ability to play multiple roles in the match, he allows us to vary with his movements. He wasn’t there today, I preferred to put Arthur further forward. We need the midfielder in those areas, Bonaventura has already done two goals. At times we could force it with Beltran in the midfield or playing with the two strikers.”
