Azzurri midfielder Sandro Tonali was disappointed with his teams performance in their 1-1 draw with North Macedonia: “We have to go back to being Italy.” Italy dominated the match in terms of possession and took the lead through Ciro Immobile, but failed to create enough clear chances to capitalise on, conceding an equaliser through a Enis Bardhi free-kick. Speaking post-match, Tonali shared his thoughts on game and where the squad can improve:
“It’s not what we hoped for, it’s not the result we wanted to bring home. Our disappointment is right but that’s football, now we have to restart because in a few days we have an important match.
“Now we have to go back to being Italy. We controlled the match well, but in the last minutes we couldn’t manage their reaction. We suffered very little but it was enough to pay for it”.
