Napoli have surprisingly put out a strongly worded statement, slamming the media for their reports on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s supposed contract extension. Il Corriere dello Sport reported earlier today that talks between the club and player’s agent had stalled over Napoli’s refusal to meet his contract demands.
Napoli responded to the report by releasing a statement on the clubs official Twitter account, saying:
“Some media continue to report, having the player’s agents as their sole source, about alleged negotiations underway for the renewal of Kvaratskhelia.
“This is “bullshit”. No one from Napoli has ever spoken about the possible renewal of the player (whose contract expires in 4 years). Neither Mauro Meluso, nor Maurizio Micheli, nor Aurelio de Laurentiis, nor Andrea Chiavelli did it.”
Kvaratskhelia enjoyed a breakout debut season in 2022-23, attracting attention from a host of European clubs. Italian media have continued to report that the club are keen to improve his contract in an effort to ward off the attention of clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United.
