Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga has reportedly turned down the chance to join Napoli in favour of making the switch to Saudi side Al-Ahli. Italian and Spanish media had suggested that the move to Naples was in the final stages, with only final details to be resolved between Celta and Napoli.
Veiga was a target for a number of elite European sides, but in what’s being reported as a sensational twist, the 21-year-old has agreed terms with Al-Ahli and will join the likes Merih Demiral, Franck Kessie and Edouard Mendy in the Middle East.
Fabrizio Romano reports that coach Matthias Jaissle played a key role in convincing the youngster, who is expected to make the switch official in the coming days.
Veiga is considered one of the brightest talents in Spanish football after his breakthrough 2022-23 season, where he scored 11 goals in 36 La Liga appearances with Celta.
