Italy set to appoint Spalletti, announcement tomorrow

Start

Italy look set to appoint former Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti to the post following Roberto Mancini’s resignation earlier this week. Mancini left the position earlier this week, much to the surprise of the Italian media, saying he didn’t get the support he felt he needed in the role.

Newspapers in Italy have speculated that Antonio Conte and Luciano Spalletti were the most likely to take over the role of Azzurri head coach, with La Gazzetta dello Sport claiming that Spalletti would be confirmed in the position very soon.

Sky Sport Italia also report the same news, saying he FIGC’s intention is to count on having the former Napoli coach signed and announced by tomorrow, August 19.

Final contacts between the parties will take place later today, Aug. 18, with the former Napoli man already able to affix signatures without the need for clearance.

It will be Spalletti who will bear the burden of any lawsuit Napoli may file against him for non-payment of the reported penalty (€3.5 million), as requested by club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The legal opinions that have been collected from the parties appear to be positive on the side of Spalletti and the FIGC, so the will is to proceed.
