Roma have confirmed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches from Paris Saint-Germain for the 2023-24 season. The Giallorossi have been pursuing the 25-year-old talent for much of the summer window and have finally struck a deal with the Parisians for his transfer.
A statement on Roma’s official website confirmed the news:
AS Roma is delighted to announce the signing of Renato Sanches from Paris Saint-Germain in a loan deal with an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met.
“I’m so happy to have joined this huge club,” stated Renato. “The Roma project really won me over and I feel that playing here is the right choice for me.
“It’s so important for any player to feel the support of the fans. For me on my first day, the impact that I felt helped me understand how much these supporters love the team and that can only drive me forward to give my all to achieve success here.”
The 25-year-old midfielder was part of the Portugal side (alongside Rui Patricio) that claimed European glory in 2016, becoming the youngest starter in the history of the Euros and the youngest goalscorer of all time in the knockout phase.
Sanches’s career has also included spells at Benfica, Bayern Munich, Swansea and Lille, while he has 32 senior Portugal caps to his name in which he has found the net on three occasions.
