Leonardo Bonucci linked with Union Berlin

Start

Leonardo Bonucci has been linked with a move to Bundesliga side Union Berlin, despite reports claiming a switch to Fiorentina was close. The former Juventus captain was reportedly in talks with La Viola over a switch, following his exclusion from the Juve first-team.

The 35-year-old veteran was informed by Bianconeri management that he is no longer part of the club’s plans for the upcoming season, and that he would be left out of the squad for the 2023-24 campaign.

There were suggestions that he could move to Juve’s rivals Florentina this summer, with pictures circulating of Bonucci and Viola club director Daniele Prade meeting on Sunday. Prade immediately denied the reports, saying: “We never discussed this deal. There’s not even a negotiation.”

Sky Sport Italia now report that Bonucci could make the move to Union Berlin, with talks having already taken place between the two parties.

Transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Bonucci is open to the move, with Union Berlin set to play in the Champions League this season following their impressive 2022-23 campaign.
