Marco Amelia says that despite all the new names in the goalkeeping world over the years, Gigi Buffon was always the best. The 45-year-old veteran announced his retirement earlier today, and speaking about the Serie A legend, Amelia confessed that he always considered Buffon the greatest:
“Best goalkeeper in history? Eh well… I would say yes (laughs, ed.). He proved that for multiple years. Every year there was a goalkeeper that came up, but he was always there and always the best. So that’s the fact of the matter, he had incredible continuity.”
“Gigi is a guy of healthy values, someone who dedicated his whole life to football, trying to improve himself but also trying to make sure that the environments he frequented could improve through comparisons and dialogues. The rest speaks for him. What he did in goal is something unique.”
