Napoli defender Giovanni Di Lorenzo says the clubs Scudetto success still hasn’t sunk, but revealed he’d like to replay the Champions League games against Milan. The new Partenopei captain was speaking with Corriere dello Sport, and explained the pride he feels at wearing the armband that was once worn by Diego Maradona:
“The title? I almost don’t believe it, but I enjoy everything. Every now and then I stop to think and I realize that nothing from the past escapes me. Insigne, Mertens and Koulibaly had left but the club found the right heirs. A championship that we dominated like this means we deserved it.”
“Being captain? I wear the armband that used to belong to Diego. I represent teammates who are fabulous: I couldn’t ask for more”.
“The season that’s coming? Now everything is reset. Even if whoever has the Scudetto on their chest is considered the favourite: maybe that’s right. We’re hungry, we celebrated the right thing but now we’re starting again.”
“Spalletti opened up a new world to me, I owe him a lot. I’ve always had good relations with the coaches and me and Garcia immediately got along as well.”
“The Champions League? I would play the matches against Milan again. It was a disappointment, chances and individual moments decided it. I say this with the respect due to a team of absolute value”.
“Reaching Hamsik with 520 appearances? I’m at 184: it takes seven years with an average of 50 games per season: careers have lengthened”.
