Salernitana have unveiled a new project to revamp the Arechi stadium which is set to cost almost €100 million. The details of the project were shared by Italian news agency ANSA:
The restyling project was presented in the afternoon by Governor Vincenzo De Luca: “We will have an indoor stadium,” said the former mayor of Salerno, explaining that the work will go ahead “with a triple shift” and that the goal is to have ready “by December 2025 the most modern stadium in Italy.”
“We will equip the structure with a photovoltaic system, there will be hospitality areas and 18 Sky boxes. The design choice, moreover, is to make a single tier, so there will no longer be two rings and this will improve visibility.
It will be a stadium on the level of the Juventus Stadium that will also be able to host international events and tournaments,” and in the premises below the South Curva “the Salernitana museum will be built.”
The capacity will remain at 35,000 spectators although modifications will be made in the corners to connect the four sectors. There will be no demolition, but the existing structure will be integrated. A visibility study has been done so that everyone can have a good view of the playing field, while the roof will provide power for the stadium when in use and for the city when not in use.
Engineer Cristina Landi explained that “the new stadium will be modern, state-of-the-art, and inclusive, so it will be barrier-free. There will also be a lounge overlooking the sea.”
While waiting for the work to start (next year) and the stadium to be ready, De Luca speculated, among other things, that Salernitana could play in Salerno’s other stadium, the Vestuti, “laden with history but falling apart” This would entail an additional investment of 15 million by the region to be able to use it temporarily, with a capacity of 15,000 spectators.
