Genoa have officially confirmed the signing of Italian international Mateo Retegui from Argentine side Tigres. The 24-year-old striker made a name for himself after earning a surprise call-up by Azzurri coach Roberto Mancini and promptly scoring two goals in his first two international matches.
Retegui was closely linked with a move to Inter in the January transfer window but has agreed a deal with Genoa this summer, with the overall transfer expected to cost the Rossoblù around €15 million. A statement on the clubs official website confirmed the news:
Mateo Retegui is a new player for Genoa. Born in San Fernando, Argentina, on 29/04/1999, the Italian national team striker boasts 161 appearances and 47 goals in club competitions. With the Azzurri shirt, he scored 2 goals in 3 appearances. Welcome to the red and blue, Mateo!
