Former Roma and Salernitana sporting director Walter Sabatini says he ‘despises’ Milans decision to sack Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara. The pair were dismissed from their roles by new Rossoneri owner Gerry Cardinale in a move that shocked many in Serie A. Speaking with Radio 24, Sabatini offered his own thoughts on the firing, explaining why the American movie ‘Moneyball’ is the most cursed film ever made:
“I totally despise Milan’s choice (to sack Maldini and Massara), even for the manner. Massara and Maldini inherited the rubble of Milan and led it to the Scudetto.”
“Moneyball? It’s the most cursed movie ever made, football cannot be just statistics. Milan is selling Tonali after taking out Maldini. I think the obstacle to Tonali’s sale was Maldini himself: he would never have signed that deal, no matter how fat it was.”
“The Arabs, I say this with all the respect in the world, cannot buy the feeling of football , which we have and they do not. When I talk about football feeling, I am referring to a wealth of knowledge and love for football . €100-150 million for Pogba from Saudi Arabia? These offers, assuming they are real-because to be real there has to be paperwork and not whispered into horses’ ears-they only make prices go even further crazy.”
