Newcastle United make Bonucci enquiry

Start

Premier League club Newcastle United have sounded out the possibility of signing veteran Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci. The 36-year-old has a contract with the Bianconeri until 2024 but the club have already stated they will listen to offers for him this summer.

Turin based La Stampa and Calciomercato.com claim that Juve are prepared to let the Italian international leave the club due to his hefty salary, which is €6.5 million net per season. His departure would allow Juve to reinvest the funds in new signings and reinforce their ageing defence.

La Stampa claim that Juve could take a further step in simply releasing the player to allow him to make a transfer in the weeks ahead.

According to the reports, Newcastle United have made an enquiry about Bonucci, but no formal offer has been put forward yet.

The Serie A veteran has already rejected offers from MLS and Saudi Arabia as well as turning down offers from the Premier League in previous seasons.
