Former Lazio striker Bruno Giordano believes midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is ‘holding the club hostage’. The 66-year-old coach gave a damning assessment of Milinkovic-Savic and his situation with the Biancocelesti, telling Radiosei that none of the big clubs really want him:
“Milinkovic-Savic has been holding us in check for two years. If this had happened 30 years ago it would have been different. We have been his hostages for a few years from the point of view of behaviour. We describe a player who is in love with Lazio, but in reality it seems to me that he does everything for him and his agent. I have never seen and heard of a player who stays for eight years in one team and every year I read that he is in demand from all over Europe for crazy amounts of money, but in the end he is always there.”
“From €100 million, we have come down to maybe €25 million. Milinkovic is not interested in the big teams. He is a player who is not very dynamic and does not work at the international level. Period. He can do well in the Italian league. After 8 years we talk about his agent who has to bring an offer. If you are a big player the big team comes knocking on your door.”
