Premier League club Newcastle United are closing in on a €70 million deal to sign Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali. SportItalia reported yesterday that a deal was in the works, suggesting the Magpies had offered Milan €50million to sign the 23-year-old.
The Athletic now claim that a deal is close to being sewn up between the two sides, subject to final negotiations, with Milan and Newcastle having held face-to-face negotiations today to discuss the transfer.
Tonali has also attracted interest from Chelsea this summer, but Newcastle identified the youngster as a key target early in the transfer window and have moved ahead of the opposition to secure their man.
Milan are likely to put the resulting funds straight into their own mercato, aiming to seal deals for the likes of Marcus Thuram and Tijani Reijnders.
