Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have been sacked by the club following a meeting with owner Gerry Cardinale. News spread on Monday evening that the pair would be stepping down, but reports from Italy now suggest that the pair have been sacked by Cardinale with immediate effect.
Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the duo were removed from their roles at Milan in the meeting with Cardinale, following some tense weeks in the buildup to the decision. An official communication from the club is still pending, and for now, Milan are expected to promote Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada to the directors roles. Furlani is currently acting as the CEO of the club while Moncada is currently the chief scout.
Di Marzio reports that ‘there are no possibilities to make amends: in the meeting there were no dialogues or confrontations, but a fast, rapid and clear communication – There was no talk of prospects, because in fact the decision had already been taken, and Maldini and Massara accepted had accepted their fates. The Rossoneri ownership has long wanted to impose a different working model in Milan, and now the time has maybe arrived.’
