Llorente and Cristante react to Roma loss

Start

Roma players Diego Llorente and Brian Cristante shared their disappointment following the Giallorossi’s Europa League final loss to Sevilla. Paulo Dybala put Roma ahead before an unfortunate Gianluca Mancini own-goal took the game to extra time and penalties, where Sevilla prevailed. Speaking after the game, Llorente and Cristante both voiced their disappointment at the result, focusing on different aspects of the game:

Llorente

“Today in all the dubious episodes, the yellow cards, the referee blew the whistle in favour of Sevilla. I am surprised because he is an international referee who has a great reputation.”

“Mourinho? He told us that we must be proud of what we have done. That we left everything on the field. We are proud, penalties are a lottery and it didn’t go well.”

Cristante:

“It’s always hard when you lose on penalties. The disappointment will last for a while, but then we must get started again.”

“I think this is still a great group, and that we have done something great with two consecutive finals. We didn’t get here by chance. We should still be proud of ourselves.”

“This season we were hit by injuries during a very difficult stretch. This complicated our ability to play in two competitions at once. I think that the coach refers to potentially having a deeper roster in order to be ready for such difficult moments during a season.”
